Wilfried Nancy insisted he was not afraid of dismissal, claiming, “The team is extremely close to changing our fortunes,” in the wake of sliding worryingly close to being fired with a comprehensive setback against Rangers.

Another Capitulation Leads to Old Firm Defeat

The Hoops were in front the visitors at the interval but a disastrous second period allowed Rangers to pull level on points with the reigning Scottish Premiership champions. Nancy, who was brought in from the MLS, has now been in charge for six defeats in his first eight fixtures.

“There is unity with the board,” insisted Nancy.

Questioned about whether he was concerned, the 48-year-old replied: “It’s not on my mind. I think about working out methods to get the team to be good on details.

Nancy’s Persistent Belief

Nancy highlights the fact Celtic can perform strongly for one half at a time. Indeed, but for wastefulness in front of goal they could have been greater than 1-0 up. “I saw enough other than the fact that we didn't take our chances,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but I have also to be balanced.

“The standard we had at stages was really, really, really high. That happened. I wouldn't speak so positively if it was untrue. That is the reason, regarding outcomes, I mentioned this is the same story. For that reason I feel we are nearly there to a shift in fortunes. Currently: details, details, details.”

“I saw a lot of encouraging signs that we did, once more. But now comes down to sustaining it. My message would be different if it was not the case. Therefore I firmly believe we will manage to get back on track.”

Opposition Reaction Response

Rangers manager refused to contemplate a serious challenge in spite of what appeared to be a landmark win. “We take it game by game, so we can gradually build a challenge,” he said. “The belief in the group is outstanding.”
