Paceman Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Concerns.

'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the playing area during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp reported the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has already lost key quicks Mark Wood due to knee trouble and another paceman with an abdominal strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out of the third Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps with the ball, and scoring 28 runs while batting as one of just three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of his spell, he delivered a change of pace to the batsman and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match having missed of the third.
