Alina Habba has resigned as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This comes after a legal ruling that questioned her eligibility to occupy the role.
Attorney General's Statement
US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, accepted her stepping down on Monday. She commented that the court's "flawed" ruling made it "untenable" for Habba to perform her duties.
"But do not mistake adherence to the ruling as defeat," Habba stated. "My fight will now extend throughout the country."

The departure follows closely on a federal appellate panel found that she had been acting without proper authority as the federal prosecutor. This ruling is could influence many legal proceedings in the Garden State.
The appellate judges declared that a temporary posting that skirted the advice and consent of the Senate ran afoul of the federal law governing appointments.

It was also stated that Habba will continue working within the justice department as a high-level advisor. They intend to pursue additional appeals of the court's action, in the hope of achieving a overturned decision.
On a social media platform, the Attorney General contended that the court "should not be able to second-guess the executive's selection of attorneys responsible for performing the executive branch's core responsibility of enforcing the law."

She praised the prosecutor's work and said that while she was in charge, the Newark saw a 20% reduction in criminal activity. She also stated that the southern city of Camden had its initial homicide-free summer since 1974 without a homicide.

Habba, originally became part of the former president's legal defense in recent years. She later represented the former president in his business records case in the previous year, which resulted in his conviction on multiple felony counts of falsifying business records.
Before assuming the federal prosecutor position, the former president had revealed he was appointing her as his presidential counsellor in a potential future term, describing her as a steadfast ally and a "tireless advocate for justice".
